WILD moved indoors to Athletic Complex
Washington University’s spring Walk In Lay Down (WILD) will take place in the Athletic Complex (AC) instead of Mudd Field, a decision announced to students via email, April 23.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Anna Gonzalez sent out the announcement, and in her email she wrote that the change is to ensure student safety after the ThurtenE Carnival was cut short due to multiple fights, and because of weather concerns. Weather reports for Friday state that showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day and will potentially be severe.
The Social Programming Board (SPB) announced on Monday, April 23, that popular rapper Joey Bada$$ would headline the show on Friday, April 26. The opening acts include singer Iyaz, pop rock band THEM, and Non-Euclidean Geometry, a band composed of WashU students.
Historically, WILD has been held in Brookings Quadrangle. The Spring 2024 concert was planned to be held at Mudd Field, where it was held in the spring of 2023 when rapper Flo Milli headlined.
Last semester, SPB rebranded fall WILD to be called “Night at The Pageant,” hosting artist Saint Motel at The Pageant on the Delmar Loop for the first off-campus WILD since the event’s origin in 1973.
Senior Spencer Kates, who plays guitar for Non-Euclidean Geometry, said that the band found out about the venue change from Gonzalez’s email to the student body.
“We haven’t made any changes to our set, we aren’t sure what will be changing in terms of the event besides being indoors,” Kates said.
Gonzalez’s announcement did not include the specific location that the concert will take place within the AC or other changes to WILD policies. She wrote that more information will be forthcoming throughout the week.
