SPB redeems itself with T-Pain spring WILD announcement
On April 1 in Tisch Commons, the Social Programming Board announced the 2019 spring WILD artist. In case the announcement was missed, the headliner is T-Pain. T-Pain is a two-time Grammy Award winning artist and has been featured on a number of chart topping singles. Every song he has been in is a bop and I am extremely excited for this WILD. In honor of this not being a cruel April Fool’s joke, I have compiled a listening guide. Whether you are the biggest T-Pain fan and want to listen to some classics before the concert or you have never listened to him before, here is the best song—in my opinion—from each of his albums, starting with his most recent. Enjoy, and get excited for WILD!
“1UP” – “A Million Times (feat. O.T. Genasis)”
“1UP” is T-Pain’s latest album, released in February of this year. “A Million Times” has T-Pain’s signature sound, but it’s updated. The beat is danceable and would be amazing live; I personally cannot wait to hear this and I am hoping it will be part of his setlist.
Paradigm Talent Agency T-Pain will headline WILD on April 26. Elley Duhe and Loud Luxery will open.
“Everything Must Go Vol. 2” – “Turn Around” and “Everything Must Go Vol. 1” – “Rest of Your Life”
Released in 2018, these two albums are amazing on their own, but I prefer to listen to them together as one complete musical experience. I think that while each album showcases his talent as a musician, they need to be listened to as one album instead of as two separate musical pieces. “Turn Around” and “Rest of Your Life” are my two favorites from the “Everything Must Go” series.
“Oblivion” – “Who Died”
This song is upbeat and a really good time. It makes you smile when you listen to it and it is a little more pop sounding than some of his other songs. The lyrics in this one also contain some amazing comebacks, like “somebody tell me who died/and made you boss;” iconic.
“rEVOLVER” – “Best Love Song”
This song is a T-Pain classic and features Chris Brown. Not a ballad and not entirely a love song, this one is a song that most people will recognize if not for T-Pain, but for Chris Brown.

“THR33 RINGZ” – “Can’t Believe It”
This song also has Lil Wayne on it. While a little slower than the others, the beat is typical of a good T-Pain song. While this album is not a particular favorite of mine, it does contain 23 bops (that’s the entire album). Truth be told, any song T-Pain touches is a bop and more people need to listen to his music.
“Epiphany” – “Buy U A Drank”
A list of T-Pain songs would not be complete without this song. It’s iconic. It’s one of his best. It might be the best. Everyone knows this one. Imagine hearing this song in Brookings Quad, on the Brookings stage, LIVE. This might actually be an out of body experience. I can see it now: Wash. U. bonding over this one song; everyone singing the lyrics together; it’s going to be magical.

“Rappa Ternt Sanga” – “I’m N Luv (Wit A Stripper)”
“Rappa Ternt Sanga” is T-Pain’s very first album and he came out of the gates swinging. Another T-Pain classic, this is one of my absolute favorite songs by T-Pain and in general. Is it iconic? Yes. Will watching him perform this be magical? Yes. I know I’ve used those words a lot, but they’re the only ones that can properly encapsulate the wonder and the majesty that is his artistry.
Wash. U., get excited for WILD. I know I am and if you ever want to listen to T-Pain with someone, I’m always available.
