Do you feel like you need to do something this Valentine’s Day but would rather go to a Mardi Gras party the day of? If so, consider venturing out on Wednesday night to see Nashville-based duo Cherub play at Old Rock House, an intimate St. Louis venue.

Not your typical electronic producers, Cherub presents a different kind of music than most people have ever listened to. The duo relies heavily on synthesizers and produces a vintage jazzy sound mixed with much of the 70s funk. A Cherub concert is perfect for any Valentine’s date, mostly because most of the pair’s discography can be succinctly described as dirty slow jams.

Cherub first hit the music scene in 2013 with its EP, “MoM & DaD,” which notably contained the popular “XOXO.” Known for its irreverent and often vulgar lyrics, Cherub quickly gained a cult following that knew every concert would be a party. As a follow up to “MoM & DaD,” Cherub released “100 Bottles,” which showcased “Heartbreaker,” “Jazzercise ’95” and “Do I.” All three songs are dance anthems with breezy baselines and catchy lyrics. “Jazzercise ’95” especially showed what the band was capable of, with its musical talent finally bubbling over the irreverent fun it already was.

Finally in 2014, Cherub released its first full-length album, “Year of the Caprese.” Featuring a re-release from “MoM & DaD” called “Doses & Mimosas,” “Year of the Caprese” gave Cherub mass appeal and exposed its music to more than just its existing cult following. The band has started to play festivals, including this year’s LouFest, and universally put on a great show wherever it went. Lead singer Jason Huber’s high tenor voice plays perfectly over the synths that guitarist Jordan Kelly usually operates.

So whatever you’re looking for this Wednesday night—a date, a dance party or just a new band—I guarantee with Cherub, it’s impossible not to have a heck of a time.
