Weekend Matinee: ‘The Room’ at the Tivoli
It’s not often I get to recommend one of the worst films ever made as an enjoyable weekend pastime, but here we are. Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room” has been called “the ‘Citizen Kane’ of bad movies,” which could mean that it’s the worst of the worst or the best of the worst but who would really know the difference.
Nominally, “The Room” is the story of a love triangle, but giving the film designations like “story” even seems a bit generous. Wiseau calls the film “black comedy” these days, claiming that the random story lines, continuity issues and just general crappiness was all intentional. Some people believe him.
But, as luck would have it, the Tivoli is bringing Tommy Wiseau to the Friday and Saturday midnight screenings, so you can judge his truthfulness for yourself! At the very least, you can make a determination on if “The Room” is really the worst film of all time or just plain bad.
Showings of “The Room” will be Friday and Saturday at midnight. Actor/Director Tommy Wiseau will talk at the theatre.
