“WashU really outperformed expectations,” Andrew Shiman, club president and B-Team first board, said. “A-Team was 16th, and the field had a lot of Grandmasters and International Masters, so we did a lot better than our rating suggested.”
After passing over Garry Kasparov last semester, Student Union Treasury reconsidered and voted to allocate $49,800 to bring the chess grandmaster to campus at its weekly meeting on Tuesday. Pending final contracts being signed, Kasparov will be coming to campus April 5.
The nation’s top chess player needed just two and a half hours to win 42 concurrent games against the top players from the Washington University community.
