WUSTL track-and-field teams finish strong at Keck Invitational

Behind two school-record performances, the Washington University men’s indoor track-and-field team captured first place at the Keck Invitational on Saturday in Bloomington, Ill.

The men’s team (98 points) slipped past Loras College (97) and Carthage College (95) to finish first out of six teams while the women’s team (70) finished second behind only host Illinois Wesleyan University (189).

With a clearance of 2.04 meters, junior Joey Pasque won the high jump and broke the previous Wash. U. school record of 2.03 meters. Meanwhile, junior Alex Arteaga finished second in the heptathlon with a two-day score of 4,735, which was a 26-point improvement over the school record he set at the Keck Invitational a year ago. Other notable men’s participants included senior Troy Makous, who won the pole vault with a season-best height of 4.57 meters, and junior Matt Goad, who raced to first in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 7.06 seconds.

For the women’s team, freshman Annalise Wagner highlighted a first-through-third-place sweep in the women’s 800 by clocking a season-best time of 2:19.02. Sophomore Ashley Knudson (2:22.41) and junior Lane Porter (2:23.28) took second and third place, respectively.

Additionally, sophomores Rebecca Ridderhoff, Kelli Hancock and Daisy Ogede and junior Emily Warner teamed up to win the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:55.58.

Next weekend, the track-and-field-teams will leave the confines of Bloomington, Ill., for just the second time in five meets when they compete in the Fighting Scot Invite in Monmouth, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 14.
