The Washington University men’s track and field team competed at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8 and 9. The team, which won the meet in 2022, had three athletes compete and finished tied for 43rd place with Benedictine University and the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

First-year Peter Lichtenberger set a new school record in the pole vault en-route to a fifth place finish and All-American honors at the meet.

The first-year, who won the event at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Feb. 24–25, vaulted 5.03 meters at nationals, beating his previous personal best by 0.10 meters. The mark surpassed the 2017 school record of 5.01 meters.

Senior Tommaso Maiocco, who placed fourth at the UAA Championships, passed his personal best by 0.2 meters with a jump of 4.88 meters. Maiocco tied for 10th place in the event at nationals.

Junior Loucas Xenakis also competed in the heptathlon, a two-day competition that includes the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, 1,000-meter run, long jump, high jump, pole vault, and shot put.

Xenakis finished in 11th place, scoring 4,802 points, which was highlighted by a third-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.35 meters. The California native notched two other top-ten finishes, finishing sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.86 meters and in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:47.90.

The Bears begin their outdoor season in St. Louis at the WashU Triangular on March 23.
