Larger than life: Balloon Glow brightens the night sky in Forest Park

and | Managing Photo Editor and Senior Scene Editor

On Friday, Sept. 19, around 50 hot air balloons lit their burners as night fell over Forest Park. The short bursts of fire caused the balloons to cast multicolored light over the dark field. Complete with street food, fireworks, and thousands of onlookers, the St. Louis Balloon Glow is a staple in the city’s slew of yearly events and a favorite of many WashU students. The event usually precedes the Great Forest Park Balloon Race, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, but was cancelled due to rain.
