5 things to do post-W.I.L.D.
We conducted a survey of Washington University students, and 82 percent of the people polled said they would do something after W.I.L.D. this Saturday night—so let’s make it happen. We realize that about 33 percent of you may think you’ll be down to go clubbing, but after a long day of drinking, in reality, that probably won’t happen. So here are some ideas that we’ve come up with that are suitable for all of your post W.I.L.D. states (excluding those of you passed out on the floor of your favorite frat or the grass of the quad and don’t plan on moving until Sunday morning):
1. Need some fresh air? Walk to the Loop!
If you follow weather.com (like we do religiously), you probably already know that St. Louis will be rockin’ a sunny, 76 degree perfect day for W.I.L.D. If you want one last chance to soak up the nice weather, try hanging at Market Pub House’s outdoor patio. There, you can smoke some hookah, order some wings and beer, and sit back and relax. Blueberry Hill can also provide the same “chill” atmosphere with darts and greasy food, if it ends up being too chilly to sit outside. And hey, if you get hit by a second—or third—burst of energy, you can even go bowling across the street at Pin-Up.
2. Eat up
Many students expressed not wanting to leave their apartments—including us. So, try what we’re doing: Host a little catered party with none other than St. Louis’s best and greasiest BBQ from Pappy’s Smokehouse! Pappy’s features sticky, sweet and juicy meats (ranging from pork to pulled chicken), smothered in its world famous “Sweet Baby Jane” tangy sauce. Order the legendary slab of ribs, pair it with some sweet potato fries and green beans (for your daily vegetable requirement), and it may just give you the strength you need to survive until Sunday. We promise you won’t stay hungry, even after an all-day drinking fest.
3. There’s no party without an after-party
Sometimes it’s the edgier, more unique ideas that make the most memorable nights. If you’re really into Major Lazer and Wale, try hanging out with them for the after party. There’s no way these guys are flying out of St. Louis Saturday night, and what upcoming artists wouldn’t want to go out and promote themselves? Make your way to the front of the crowd, make an impression and just maybe you’ll get yourself a spot hanging with the bands. And even if you don’t, it would make for a great story if you try.
4. Facebook much?
Before uploading pictures from your W.I.L.D. festivities or stalking someone else’s new postings, go pay homage to Mark Zuckerberg by heading over to one of our local theaters and seeing “The Social Network.” At AMC Esquire 7, you can even walk over and catch a 10:20 p.m. showing (presumably after you take a long nap). Cadenza writer Percy Olsen rated “The Social Network” a whopping five stars on Monday, and the buzz is that the movie is just as addicting as the site itself. So get comfortable in one of those velvety red cinema chairs, and be prepared to hold your bladder from all of those beers you drank a few hours earlier because you won’t want to miss a thing.
5. Party, party, party.
Just in case that 33 percent of you want to follow through on your word, what better place to pick up the pace and continue partying than our new favorite hot-spot, Mandarin? You’ll have to catch a cab to the Central West End and muster up the energy to get dressed up, but Mandarin is guaranteed to end your W.I.L.D. just as crazily as you started it.
