Pete Davidson to headline fall 2018 comedy show
Pete Davidson, most widely known for his appearances on Saturday Night Live (SNL), will headline this semester’s comedy show, the Social Programming Board (SPB) announced this evening.
Davidson became one of SNL’s youngest regular cast members on Sept. 27, 2014. He has also made appearances on MTV’s Guy Code, performed stand-up comedy on Adam Devine’s House Party, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Comedy Underground with Dave Attell and guest-starred in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
“Logistically we had to work around the SNL filming schedule, so that was probably the hardest part of booking all of it, but definitely worth it to be able to bring [him here,]” SPB President and senior Dina Guilak said.
Some might recognize Davidson from his roast of Justin Bieber on Comedy Central in March 2015, while others might know him from his recent public engagement to singer Ariana Grande.
According to SPB’s comedy director, junior Annabel Lassally, Pete Davidson was a high contender in their comedy preferences survey that they put out for Washington University students.
“Pete Davidson is one of my personal favorite comedians, and I was so excited to see that the student body felt the same,” Lassally said. “Davidson is known for personal and relatable comedy, often basing his jokes on events happening in his own life, which I think will be a huge hit with our student body. He has been performing at several colleges lately, including Auburn University and Saint Louis University (SLU), so I can’t wait to see what he has come up with for a college audience.”
Guilak believes that Davidson’s recent popularity, as well as the timing of the show, will lead to a high turnout from students.
“I am really excited because it’s so early in the semester,” Guilak said. “No one has exams, no one has group meetings, no one’s stressed for the semester yet. I think we’re going to get amazing turnout… We haven’t fully filled Graham Chapel since Bo Burnham, which was fall 2015. So I’m really hopeful that we’re going to be able to fill all the seats for Pete Davidson.”
The Fall Comedy Show will take place in Graham Chapel on September 5. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7:00 p.m. Admission will be free for all undergraduate students with a valid Washington University ID. Free Mission Taco will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. for those waiting in line.
