Noa Yadidi, a sophomore known by her colleagues for her journalistic enthusiasm and cross-sectional design and reporting skills, has been named editor-in-chief of Student Life for the 2016-17 academic year.

Her appointment was announced at Friday’s annual banquet of Washington University Student Media Inc., whose board of directors oversees Student Life.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Yadidi, 19, is double-majoring in political science and computer science. As editor-in-chief, Yadidi will be in charge of managing staff, supervising the production of Student Life and making executive decisions.

Her career in student journalism has spanned over 10 years, including her time as editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper, The Harvard-Westlake Chronicle.

Yadidi began working with Student Life as a freshman. Her valuable design know-how and newsroom practice led her to take on her current positions of both design editor and news editor.

Yadidi hopes that her involvement in the various sections within the paper will help her make Student Life’s content as multifaceted and accessible as possible.

“I think the work that’s been done by the people before me has been really amazing,” Yadidi said. “What’s really important to me for the future is focusing on how to better communicate our content to our readers and how we can make our readers care and want to pick up the paper.”

That work will involve “a lot more online-only content, and pushing our video, photo, graphic and visual side a lot further—to a greater extent than to what we’ve ever done before,” Yadidi added.

Current editor-in-chief and junior Megan Magray believes that Yadidi will ensure that Student Life continues to improve in terms of multimedia and content development.

“I really think that Noa [Yadidi] has a lot of great ideas, especially about content development and how we can really make sure that every story is fleshed out in the best possible way in regards to multimedia,” Magray said.

Yadidi will assume her role as editor-in-chief on Wednesday, March 30, serving at the position through spring 2017.
