University to provide free H1N1 vaccines Monday

The University will provide free 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccinations to University students aged 18-24 on Monday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gargoyle. Students must present their University ID and/or student ID number in order to receive the vaccine.

The 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine has been approved by the FDA and is believed to be as safe as the seasonal flu vaccine.

The vaccine can be taken via an inactivated injection or live form in a nasal spray. The nasal spray is reserved for students who are not pregnant and do not have health conditions such as asthma and diabetes.

The 2009 H1N1 vaccine is not believed to protect against the seasonal flu, just as the seasonal flu vaccine is not believed to protect against the H1N1 flu.

The University will continue to provide updates as the vaccine becomes available for wider distribution.
