As chancellor-elect, Andrew Martin will manage the day-to-day operations of the University. Chancellor Wrighton will continue serving as a liaison to the Board of Trustees, focus on program development and perform ceremonial tasks of the chancellor including spring commencement.

The Title IX investigation process is slated to change in accordance with a proposal from U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Washington University plans to submit a comment to the Department of Education alongside the other institutions in the Association of American Universities detailing its objections to the proposal.

Washington University Graduate Workers Union marched to Chancellor Mark Wrighton’s house to demand $15 an hour and childcare for all Oct. 31.

Barbara Potts was named the associate vice chancellor for finance and controller Oct. 23. She now oversees a team of 75 people in accounting services.

Chancellor Wrighton said that Washington University’s adoption of need-blind admissions is “an ideal we can work towards” in a recent interview with Student Life.

Newman is currently chairman of Hackett Security Inc. and has served on the board of trustees since 1987. He will replace Craig D. Schnuck as chairman in June. Previously, Newman served on the Medical Finance Committee, the University Finance Committee and the Honorary Degree Committee.

Washington University held a reception for the Chancellor Designate Andrew Martin, which was attended by approximately 400 students, Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The book, called “Our Higher Calling: Rebuilding the Partnership between America and Its Colleges and Universities,” explores the relationship between the American public and its universities that—according to Goldstein—began in 1636 when Harvard University received a charter and a tax exemption from the state of Massachusetts.

Student group Title Mine addressed changes to Washington University’s Title IX system with a statement posted to Facebook Sept. 4.

The statement details the demands that have been met, demands that are in progress and those that have not been met. It also explains what Title Mine organizers are currently doing in response to the changes.

Chancellor Mark Wrighton’s fundraising campaign, Leading Together, raised a total of $3.378 billion after ending June 30.
