Chancellor Andrew Martin moderated a conversation on freedom of speech between Hebrew University in Jerusalem professor Barak Medina and Washington University professor Lee Epstein in Umrath Lounge, Sept. 3. Attendees filled the 130 seats, with roughly another 60 standing in order to watch. 

The Washington University College Democrats and WashU College Republicans (WUCR) debated abortion, gun violence, climate change, the Israel-Hamas war, and the Russia-Ukraine war in their semesterly Campus Crossfire in Tisch Commons, April 24. 

WashU Votes and Washington University’s Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement hosted a polling place in the Danforth University Center for the Missouri Municipal Election for the first time in the University’s history, April 2.

Erika Schwartz described to Washington University students the horrific experiences her family faced during the Holocaust as well as the ensuing trauma that haunted them for generations after, March 28.

In a meeting attended by nearly 200 total students, Student Union (SU) Senate passed a resolution 15 to 5 with one abstention, via an unprecedented anonymous vote, calling on Washington University to divest from and cut professional ties with Boeing, March 19. 

The Student Union Senate discussed the possibility of continued protests in regard to Professor Phil Dybvig’s continued employment and made preliminary preparations for the upcoming Boeing resolution vote in its meeting this Tuesday, March 5.

Dr. Tansu Daylan, Assistant Professor of Physics, presented on exoplanets and their transits as part of the Saturday Science Lecture series leading up to the April 8 eclipse on Saturday, Mar. 2.

Dr. Francesc Ferrer, Associate Professor of Physics, presented “The Eclipse That Made Einstein World-Famous” as part of the Saturday Science Lecture series leading up to the April 8 eclipse on Saturday, Feb. 24. 

Dr. Manel Errando presented “Eclipses Through Time: Unveiling the Celestial Tapestry of Human History” as part of the Saturday Science Lecture Series on Saturday, Feb. 17. 

The Brown School hosted a virtual Open Classroom on “Syphilis: An Infectious Disease Perpetuated by Social Inequities,” presented by Dr. Jason Newland, professor of pediatrics, as part of its 2024 Black History Month Speaker Series, Feb. 13.
