At 7:30 p.m. on election night, the WashU College Republicans met in a modern off-campus apartment on Washington Avenue to prepare for a night that would test their hopes and principles. About 20 students were there, creating a lively scene filled with chatter, laughter, and the familiar smell of pizza. Some sat cross-legged in front of a flat-screen TV tuned into the Red Eagle Politics YouTube livestream; others stood around the kitchen island, alternately chatting and refreshing the New York Times election page on their laptops. The mood was buoyant, with food, drinks, and bursts of humor punctuating the tense watch.
Tank and the Bangas has continuously redefined the line between music, poetry, and New Orleans sound. Their album “The Heart, The Mind,The Soul” is out on streaming platforms right now, with an expanded release with bonus content released on vinyl on Oct. 11.
Drummer Joe Russo has been synonymous with great musicianship for decades. Some know him as a drummer for Furthur, the band established by Bob Weir and Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead. But most know Russo as the leader of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, a The Grateful Dead cover band that continually redefines the way people listen to and play The Dead. Russo, who plays both drums and keyboard, took to the stage with his new band, the Selcouth Quartet, on Sept. 14 at the 2024 Music at the Intersection festival.
David Cross is a comedic juggernaut. Cross began as a stand-up comedian and has been performing ever since. You can find his latest special, “Worst Daddy in the World,” here. And on Friday, Oct. 11, Cross is coming to St. Louis to perform at the Delmar Hall.
WashU’s backyard, Forest Park, continued to bring both nature and culture to the St. Louis community as Evolution Festival set up shop at Langenberg Field for the second consecutive year.
On Sept. 15 and 16, Music at the Intersection rolled back into the Arts District for a fourth consecutive year. Attracting a slew of musicians, the festival covered nearly every genre of music, from jazz to hip hop to funk. Music at the Intersection also makes a point to celebrate St. Louis music, connecting festival goers with their local favorites as well as national names. The event engages in a conversation between St. Louis’ musical history and the world’s popular music.
