This spring, a Washington University student-athlete strolled into the training room for a 12:30 appointment for an appointment for shoulder maintenance. They walked out of the Athletic Center at 4 p.m., having spent almost four hours in the training room. 

Senior Miriam Silberman sat down for an interview with Clara Richards, Co-Editor-in-Chief, on Monday, April 10. Silberman is from the suburbs of Chicago and is pursuing a major in microbiology, she recently ended her tenure as the president of Student Union (SU). During the conversation Silberman reflected on her experience as SU president and what she was able to accomplish over the last year. This Q&A has been edited for length and clarity.

Jacinto sat down with Student Life to chat about Texas baseball, his transition to WashU, and his superstition that started when he hit the first homer of his collegiate career against Westfield State.

“For me, being a national champion means that I showed up for my team on that day. And so I can’t really ask for anything more than that.” 

In one of the most electric and competitive games the Francis Gymnasium has seen in the past 12 months, the No. 18 Washington University men’s basketball team lost to No. 19 North Park University in an agonizing and excoriating 72-69 defeat. 

In the two full games that WashU did play against Hendrix over their weekend series, the Bears struggled to match the production at the plate. They finished the weekend with two losses and only two runs in eighteen innings of play. Hendrix outscored them 9-2 over the course of the two games. 

“It’s not letting the circumstance be bigger than what it is,” Juckem said. “I want the guys to enjoy that and the reward of earning the right to play on their home floor [and] defend their home wood.”  

In their first series of the season, WashU baseball swept the University of the Ozarks, outscoring the Eagles 27-11 over the course of three games.  A productive offensive effort combined with strong relief outings helped the Bears to their three wins in Arkansas.
