Jive tabbed as varsity program after dazzling halftime performance, adds one more show to schedule
Washington University has announced that the Jive Dance program will become the University’s 15th varsity athletic team.
Many of the existing varsity programs expressed concern about allocation of the existing athletics budget to the dance team. Jive head coach Susie Pirouette hoped to quell any concern about fiscal irresponsibility.
“I’m not sure what everyone is so worked up about. Only $5,000 of our budget has been set aside for glitter makeup,” said Pirouette, runner-up on the second season of “So You Think You Can Dance.” “Everyone knows that hardly covers eye shadow for all the girls. We’re desperate over here!”
Although the team’s NCAA career is young, it expects a dominant entrance onto the Division III dance scene.
“We’re going to be doing three performances a season instead of our normal two,” captain Lisa Dance-Dance-Revolution said. “This will probably require six or seven extra practices for the year, which should bring us to a total of six or seven.”
The team’s work for the year will culminate in an event listed on their schedule as “Dance Marathon,” to be held in the Rec Gym in November. According to team captains, dancers would not plan the event but would intend to stay for the entire 12 hours.
“What I’m most concerned about is that we get the green T-shirts,” Dance-Dance-Revolution said. “The morale dance should be a piece of cake, but without that green to complement our line of glitter makeup, I’m just not sure we can perform to the best of our ability.”
