Student government announced for 2011-2012

Student Union election results from this week’s election were announced Wednesday evening. The UP executive slate, which ran uncontested, won with more than 96 percent of the vote. The slate, headed by President-elect John Harrison York, the current vice president of programming, will take office on March 31.

Student government announced for 2011-2012

Student Union election results for the 2011-2012 school year were released on Wednesday. Pup N’ Suds defeated incumbent slate Mission Accomplished for Senior Class Council, and the UP slate, which ran unopposed, will serve as the next SU Executive Council.

Evaluating the UP slate

Each year, the Student Life editorial board conducts interviews with the candidates running for Student Union executive council and evaluates their platforms. This year, the UP slate, which consists of junior John Harrison York (president), sophomore MaryPat Sinclair (vice president of programming), sophomore Mamatha Challa (vice president of administration), junior Cody Katz (vice president of finance) and sophomore Amanda Signorelli (vice president of public relations), is running unopposed.

Student Life sat down with each of the UP slate’s five candidates for Student Union Executive Council to get a sense of their reasons for running and goals for the coming year.

First slate prepares SU executive bid

The first Student Union executive branch slate has formed with the hope of improving the student experience and communication between students and their government. The slate, UP, is the first to be announced. As of Sunday night, no other slates or candidates have been announced. Potential candidates have until Monday to announce that they are running.
