SU election sees new members of Treasury, Senate, ArtSci Council; new SU leadership chosen in internal elections

After the fall 2023 Student Union (SU) election, new members were elected to Senate, Treasury, and the Arts & Sciences Council, and two constitutional amendments were passed, Nov. 16. The election had the lowest voter turnout since spring of 2022, and among those elected is an ArtSci Council President with a history of opposing the existence of SU.

If you mention the name David Gumins to a group of people, at least one person invariably knows him and the rest have likely heard his name. On a college campus, you might assume this level of notoriety makes him infamous, but that’s far from the truth. Gumins simply has a hand in everything, from student government to Greek life to various clubs.

Our University has a diverse student body, but a criticism oft-levied at the makeup of this campus is that its different factions are prone to self-segregation. Though no amount of programming can fully solve this problem, structured collaboration between student groups is a good place to start.

Getting the least out of your college experience

I don’t really know what to tell you if you want to make the most of your time here. I guess I’ll just tell you the stuff I wish people had told me back when I was a freshman.
