Washington University women’s soccer lost to the defending national champions and No. 22 Wheaton College (Ill.) 3-0 in the third round of the NCAA tournament.

Soccer advances to sweet 16 on penalty kicks

Freshman Alyssa Marulli made the biggest play of her collegiate career Sunday, nailing a penalty kick to clinch victory for the women’s soccer team and a Sweet Sixteen berth in the NCAA tournament. The Bears had played Illinois Wesleyan University to a 0-0 tie before going on to beat the Titans 3-1 on penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods.

Women’s soccer looks toward another strong season in 2008

The biggest change for Washington University’s ninth-ranked women’s soccer team this year will not be on the field, but on the sidelines. First year Head Coach Jim Conlon takes over the reins this season following former Head Coach Wendy Dillinger’s resignation in January. The former Wartburg College men’s and women’s head coach will have big shoes to fill, as Dillinger was the winningest women’s soccer coach in school history.
