Student Union (SU) unanimously passed its $4.6 million general budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Feb. 18. This year’s Treasury budget was passed in 49 minutes, making it the second-fastest budget passed in SU history. The budget will create a new fund to pay for cleaning costs for student organizations, increase the budget for Night at the Pageant to $100,000, and decrease funding for student council.

Student Union Treasury unanimously approved the $4.6 million general budget allocating the 2024-2025 Student Activities Fee, which is almost 9% more than last year, Feb. 20.

The largest section in the budget was $1.9 million dedicated to funding student group reserves, an increase from $1.6 million last year.

Student Union unanimously passed the general budget for the 2020-2021 school year, Feb. 16, approving $3,756,970 of $4,246,843.70 total requested funds.

“My intention is not to respond to or defend the events over the past several weeks, but rather to recognize that there does exist a thorough ‘why’ behind ‘what’ we do.”

Moving forward, we urge Student Union to continue to show as much care as they did this year when making budgetary decisions.

Despite standing for nearly 16 hours, senior and Vice President of Finance Vikram Biswas has finalized and balanced Student Union’s 2017-2018 budget, which includes a 100 percent increase in Trending Topics funding and the return of two WILDs. Our editorial board commends SU for increasing their focus on enriching the student experience inside and outside of the classroom.

Senate and Treasury will vote on the 2017-2018 budget this upcoming Sunday, a procedure that led to the cancellation of 2016 fall WILD last year.

In dividing its largest pot of money in history, Student Union’s general budget proposal passed unanimously for the second consecutive year on Tuesday night.

In two back-to-back votes, Student Union Senate and Treasury passed the general budget for the 2014-15 year without a single representative in opposition. Passed Tuesday night, the budget allocates an estimated $2,821,975 in funding that SU will receive in Student Activities Fees for students coming to the University next year.
