The No. 4 WashU women’s golf team placed fourth with a cumulative score of 31 over par at the Deb Jackson Invitational on April 13-14 in Douglassville, Georgia. Senior Sydney Kuo led the Bears, scoring five over par across the two-day tournament to place seventh.
The No. 19 WashU men’s basketball took to the road to end their three-game losing streak, defeating both Case Western Reserve University 86-68 and Carnegie Mellon University 78-54 on Feb. 14 and 16. The Bears are now 17-6 overall and 7-4 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.
Coming off of a three-game losing streak, the WashU women’s basketball team went 1-1 on the road, battling in close games against Case Western Reserve University and Carnegie Mellon University. The Bears narrowly beat the Case Western Spartans 62-61 but fell to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans 76-70, leaving the team 5-6 in conference play.
Coming off a five-game winning streak, the No. 13 WashU women’s basketball team fell to Case Western Reserve University and No. 23 Carnegie Mellon University on Jan. 17 and 19. Despite making late surges, the Bears lost to the Spartans 57-64 on Friday and the Tartans 67-86 on Sunday.
The Bears swept both opponents in competitive fixtures, with each match lasting five sets. The match against UChicago featured a comeback after being down two sets to one, and against Carnegie Mellon, they held on after taking an early lead. With the wins, the Bears finish UAA play 5-2 and will enter the conference tournament as the third seed.
The WashU men’s soccer team showed grit and resilience over the weekend, securing a pair of tough draws against Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve University. In a 0-0 stalemate on Friday night, the Bears leaned on their defense to hold firm, while Sunday’s Senior Day matchup ended in a 1-1 tie after a late rally from Case Western.
A win over Rochester next weekend would clinch a second-straight UAA title for WashU and the conference’s automatic qualifier to the tournament.
The win was one of three that the Bears secured over the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Tartans across their two doubleheaders from April 20-21, leaving the Bears one game behind conference leaders Case Western Reserve University, with one week remaining in the regular season.
The Bears have become used to comebacks in their tight UAA season, but as the clock wound down, they were unable to pull out a win this time. Carnegie Mellon held on for a 79–73 victory. Two days later, on Feb. 4, the Bears’ struggles were compounded by a 74–59 loss to No. 10 Case Western Reserve University.
After losing three out of their last four games, the Washington University women’s basketball team needed a big weekend to bolster their case for a March Madness berth as the Division III playoff race begins to take shape. Over the weekend, that’s exactly what they did, defeating Carnegie Mellon University on Jan. 26 and Case Western Reserve University on Jan. 28 in front of an electric home crowd.
