Lillegraven leads women’s soccer to win over Emory

Senior forward Olivia Lillegraven notched two goals late in the second half to propel the No. 7 Washington University women’s soccer team over University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Emory University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.

After a scoreless first half, Lillegraven was able to head in a cross from Wash. U. freshman Caroline Dempsey in the 65th minute for the first goal of the game. Then in the 81st minute, she knocked in another header off a corner by junior Hannah Rosenberg to round out the scoring. These were Lillegraven’s ninth and 10th goals on the season.

While the Bears broke through in the second half, Emory was stifled by a staunch Wash. U. back line that allowed just nine shots total. Emory entered the game averaging just under 19 shots per game. Junior goalkeeper Lizzy Crist chipped in with four saves in Wash. U.’s third consecutive and seventh overall shutout of the season.

With the win, the Bears extend their winning streak to nine games, the longest such streak since 2013.

Wash. U. will travel to the Big Apple next Friday for another UAA matchup against New York University.
