The WashU women’s golf team placed fifth at the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championship May 13-16 at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, with a team score of 54 over par. Conference rivals Emory University (+16) and Carnegie Mellon University (+29) placed first and second, respectively.

Throughout the four-day tournament, WashU pushed through the pack, sitting 11th after the first round and in ninth headed into Friday’s final round. On Friday, the team posted a round of 12 over par, moving up four spots to finish in fifth, three strokes behind George Fox University.

Head coach Dave Reinhardt attributed the team’s improvement throughout the tournament to their aggressiveness in later rounds of the tournament.

“I would say what surged us a lot was a little bit more aggressiveness, going firing at flags,” he said. “I thought we showed more confidence every day and more trust in our golf games. That was huge.”

Senior Sydney Kuo, who was named WGCA first-team All-American, led the Bears, placing seventh with a cumulative score of five over par. Halfway through the tournament, Kuo sat T-24 with a score of five over par. However, she shot rounds of 66 (-2) and 73 (+1) to surge ahead by 17 spots to finish in the top 10. With her third top-10 finish in three years, including a T-2 finish in 2023, Kuo is now a three-time NCAA All-American.

“She’s a three-time NCAA All-American, and for her to again be one of the top, in my opinion, top three players at that tournament is just really a crowning achievement for her,” Reinhardt said about Kuo’s performance. “To be the leader on the golf course those four days, and for our players and other players to see how she competes and what she does to practice to get her best game. This is a true testament to her on the course, playing and just overall championship golfer.”

At the end of the second round, junior Tiffany Chan (+10), who was named WGCA second team All-American, sat tied with Kuo in 24th place. During the third round, Chan dropped down two spots before shooting a one over par final round to bounce back to 24th place, where she finished the tournament.

Sophomore Amy Beanblossom, who won her first two collegiate tournaments this season and was named WGCA Honorable Mention All-American, placed 50th with a cumulative score of 14 over par. After missing most of the season due to injury, fellow sophomore Reagan Robinson finished in 114th place with a score of 25 over par to round out the Bears’ four scoring players.

First-year Nicole McGuire, who qualified for every tournament in her first year of collegiate golf, rounded out the Bears’ five golfers, finishing in 160th place with a cumulative score of 36 over par.

At the national championship, WashU concluded a spring season that saw multiple individual wins from Beanblossom, two second-place team finishes, and a team win at the Cardinal Classic in late April. With Kuo graduating, the Bears will add three new players to their roster and look to continue their success in the fall season.
