Best neighborhoods to run in St. Louis
WashU’s location near Forest Park and the scenic City of Clayton and University City make it a great spot for community members to get out and go for a run or walk. As the weather begins to warm up, here are three great spots near campus to get outside and exercise.
Forest Park
Just across Skinker Boulevard lies Forest Park. One of the largest urban parks in the nation, Forest Park offers nearly 30 miles of trails for walkers and runners to enjoy. Whether you are looking for a short walk, a 3-mile run, or a marathon, Forest Park has it all. The park features both flat and hilly areas and offers scenic views of nature, the Missouri History Museum, and the World’s Fair Pavilion throughout.
DeMun Neighborhood
Located across Wydown Boulevard and south of WashU’s South 40 lies the DeMun neighborhood. These tree-lined streets are great for getting in a quick early morning run or running between classes. Nestled in the DeMun neighborhood is Concordia Seminary, a beautiful spot to run by or pause for a moment during the business of life at WashU. DeMun is a great way to escape the WashU bubble while staying close to and exploring the area directly next to campus.
University City
Many students live off-campus in University City in the area between the Danforth Campus and the Delmar Loop. Like the DeMun area, this cute neighborhood is great for runners of all abilities. UCity can play host to anything from a 1-mile run to a long run or walk, and it extends from campus all the way to downtown Clayton. It provides a variety of terrains for runners and is a great option for people living off-campus.
