Security guard killed in shooting at Delmar Loop MetroLink station
A person shot and killed a security guard at the Delmar Loop MetroLink station Sunday morning.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the security guard was responding to a report of a person causing a disturbance. When he approached the individual, the person took out a weapon and shot him multiple times.
Washington University Law Enforcement sent an initial alert at 11:14 a.m. warning community members to avoid the area around the Delmar Loop station, before sending a follow-up email at 2:36 p.m. with more information about the shooting.
The suspect fled the area immediately after the shooting. According to Washington University Police Department Chief Mark Glenn, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) is conducting the search for this suspect, with assistance from other departments in the area.
“All police departments in the area… have that information and will be conducting patrols of the areas, specifically looking for anyone matching that description,” Glenn said. “The investigation itself will be handled completely by [SLMPD] unless they ask for additional resources.”
The Delmar Loop MetroLink station is at Delmar Boulevard and Hodiamont Avenue, east of Skinker Boulevard and about a 25-minute walk from the center of the Danforth Campus.
While the SLMPD investigated the shooting, MetroLink red line trains did not run between Forest Park-Debaliviere and Wellston, but by 3:15 p.m., Sunday service had resumed.
