This proposition asks whether the City of Clayton should impose a tax on the charges for all hotels and motels in Clayton at a rate of less than 5 percent.
In an electoral twist, there are three candidates running for the position of County Executive, the highest political office in St. Louis County.
Democrat Pat Dolan is running against Republican Randy Jotte. Dolan’s highest level of education is high school; Jotte has a Harvard M.D. and has served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees and on the Washington University Faculty Senate Council.
There are two candidates for the State Senate from the 24th district. Barbara Fraser is the Democratic candidate. She has been on the St. Louis County Council since 2007, representing the 5th district. The Republican candidate is John Lamping. He has no previous experience in politics.
There are three candidates for the position of State Auditor, the person who tracks state and federal money, making sure that it is spent wisely.
Democrat Russ Carnahan is running against Republican Ed Martin. Carnahan currently holds the seat and is running for re-election. Martin served as chief of staff to former Gov. Matt Blunt and as the chair of the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners.
Republican Daniel F. O’Sullivan, Jr., a Wash. U. MBA, will challenge incumbent Stacey Newman.
