The name “fun.” does not just make a statement; it also refers to a relatively new indie rock band that just released its second studio album. Although fun. formed in 2008, “Some Nights” is their first album to be released on a major record label. Fueled by Ramen, the band’s record label, made a smart choice signing fun., because this album is actually quite impressive and unique.

In creating “Some Nights,” fun. used the traditional indie rock sentiment and style but with the unique perspective of electro-pop playfulness. The album focuses greatly on vocals with minimal instrumental disturbance. It contains a mixture of upbeat songs like “Some Nights” and “All Alone” and slower, more lyrical songs like “Why Am I the One.” The slower songs still retain their lightheartedness, however. Although the album has a few songs in which the lines between indie rock and electro-pop make an awkward indie-synth-pop-Auto-Tune-rock blur, the majority of the songs are very nicely thought-out and created with a sound that is both indie rock and upbeat. Altogether, fun. released an album that is really fun to listen to and great to relax to.
