The word is out on the Secret Sound Festival
Have you ever wondered whether secret organizations lay beneath the streets of suburban St. Louis? Have you ever (secretly) yearned to be among the elite members of a clandestine society? Do you find yourself sunk in the Top 40 blues when you hear Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” for the millionth time, and you can’t even get KWUR’s signal at your apartment? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, the St. Louis Secret Sound Society (STLSSS) has just the event for you. Starting today, the STLSSS kicks off the incipient Secret Sound Festival.
The Secret Sound Festival, located in the quaint Cherokee-Lemp Historic District, runs from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. Ad Astra Arkestra! kicks off the festivities at 2 p.m. at Off Broadway.
The aim of the Secret Sound Society’s music collective—consisting of musicians, music journalists, concert promoters, show bookers, graphic designers and visual artists—is to diversify the musical experience of St. Louis residents…and beyond.
The diverse array of independent groups performing will not fail to impress; bands include Troubadour Dali (highlighted by the STLSSS as “psychedelic-pop at its most pure”), Spelling Bee (“two nice St. Louis kids transform into something you don’t see coming…something hard hitting, loud and spastic”) and Dubb Nubb (a “saccharine sweet” duo that fuses the vocals of Kimya Dawson with the lyrical quirk of your high school diary), among a spot-on lineup that will quench your thirst for that live indie music scene that you can’t quite track down on-campus.
