Reddit is full of wonderful niche communities with discussion forums for a wide range of interests, but did you know that we have our very own Washington University subreddit?

As an extremely anxious incoming freshman, I stumbled upon r/WashU, a forum on the social discussion website Reddit, and spent hours learning as many tips and secrets about my college as possible. At a total of 1,971 r/WashU Redditors, you would be surprised to find how useful the Wash. U. Reddit community is.

Many students post their schedule to get general tips for all their classes. Some also ask for the pros and cons of certain dorm buildings. I could post a class-specific question and receive quality advice from past years’ students. Being a nervous pre-med, I was able to find threads on Biology 2960 with a helpful tip from Reddit user Draydaze to “re-type my written notes in a study guide format, make flash cards for any specific terms that seemed important and then either quiz myself or have a friend quiz me.”

There are even posts that request for names of the best Mexican food restaurants, rant about the campus Wi-Fi, or remind students to participate in certain activities or events. During admissions season, questions from prospective students show up and r/WashU Redditors give the most wholesome and honest answers. Once, co-founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian posted a video and “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) thread just for Wash. U. students on r/WashU. Another time, a current student of Fontbonne University held an AMA to spread awareness of their existence.

Strangely and awesomely, there are not one, not two, but three threads on the where to go No. 2 on campus, which feature many hidden gems!

“Cupples II bottom floor. Private bathroom, and pretty damn big, too. It’s even got a bloody shower,” user threeoneoh wrote.

Apparently, a bathroom in Umrath Hall comes with “great [Febreze] options and nice frosted glass,” according to user withhotsauceplease. A view without the distracting worry of stinky farts while you poo. Very practical, I must say.

On top of all that, I learned from r/WashU that there are mysterious unknown rooms and tunnels throughout campus. Thus, we are gifted with totally spooky comments.

“All hail the magical Q KEY!! With its immense power, the tunnels can be accessed by any mortal and nothing will stand in your way. Choose to venture without it, and face the wrath of the steam pipes,” user Rubin0 said.

OK. You know where I’ll be this weekend.

However, my favorite thread of all is one titled “WUSTL To Do List” by user swishahausknecht. It is basically a comprehensive guide to Wash. U., including on-campus, off-campus, academic, food and drink, technology and miscellaneous tips. It also includes a (probably expired and non-existent) scavenger hunt to “find the $20 bill I hid behind a light fixture in Ruby 102 at the end of my freshman year. Quick, before they destroy the building!”
