In 2024, Fontbonne announced that it would close, and that WashU would purchase its campus. Nearly a year later, on Feb. 26, 2025, the Fontbonne baseball team stepped up to the plate at WashU’s Kelly Field to take on WashU in their last-ever athletics contest.
With the No. 15 women’s team’s 93-35 win, and the No. 2 men’s team’s 107-57 victory later that night, WashU played its final basketball games against its neighbor Fontbonne, which will close after the 2024-25 academic year. Fontbonne’s gym and facilities will soon adorn WashU red and green, when WashU absorbs Fontbonne’s land into its campus over the summer.
The Washington University women’s soccer team picked up another win against their neighbors, Fontbonne University, on Friday night, 2-0. The Bears have dominated this rivalry in the past and the present, now leading the series 22-0.
