After 16 years, the No. 17 WashU men’s basketball team is headed to the Elite Eight, after a 59-56 Sweet 16 win over No. 22 Wisconsin Lutheran College on March 14.
This was the second consecutive season for the Bears to end in heartbreak, as they also were eliminated in 2019 by penalty kicks in the Elite Eight.
Sophomore Sidney Conner, who was named the University Athletic Association’s Sophomore Rookie of the Year this week, said the Bears are “really prepared” to face UW – La Crosse Saturday.
The Bears will face the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse next Saturday in their sixth straight Sweet 16 appearence.
The Washington University women’s soccer team is four games away from a national championship and an undefeated season. However, it will likely face its most difficult challenge of the season this weekend as they host the NCAA Sectional Semifinal.
The women’s cross-country team qualified for the NCAA championship with a strong first place performance this weekend at Lake Breeze Golf Course near Winneconne, Wis. Saturday.
