This was the second consecutive season for the Bears to end in heartbreak, as they also were eliminated in 2019 by penalty kicks in the Elite Eight.
Sophomore Sidney Conner, who was named the University Athletic Association’s Sophomore Rookie of the Year this week, said the Bears are “really prepared” to face UW – La Crosse Saturday.
The Bears will face the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse next Saturday in their sixth straight Sweet 16 appearence.
Head coach Stephanie Gabbert said the team will need to get better at finishing on its opportunities going into the tournament.
The two games moved the Bears to 13-1-1 on the season and dropped them from the third spot in the rankings.
The win brought the Bears to 9-0-1 on the year.
Miles, who ranks second on the team in points this year, is primed to lead the Bears’ attack heading into UAA competition this weekend.
WashU played with authority over the ball and an aggressive offense for most of the game.
The men captured two shutout victories while the women beat Fontbonne University for their first victory under interim head coach Stephanie Gabbert.
