Visiting DePauw University put on an offensive showcase and upset the No. 14 Bears 83-73 in the Field House on Thursday, ending Wash. U.’s season in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
With the win on Saturday, the Bears finished the regular season with a 20-5 overall record and 9-5 record in the University Athletic Association to capture second place in the conference.
Senior forward Nick Burt has transitioned from a marginal role player in previous seasons to a major component of the Bears’ offense and has partially filled the void left by the departure of seniors Alan Aboona, Chris Klimek and Tim Cooney last year.
The Washington University men’s basketball team finally lost on a Sunday. After winning 16 consecutive Sunday games since January 2013, the No. 7 Bears suffered a Sunday defeat in their first home loss of the season against Case Western Reserve University, 89-78.
