“Birds of Prey” opens Feb. 6, and in honor of its upcoming theatrical release, here is a definitive ranking of my favorite (and least favorite) superhero movies of the 21st century*.
The 2010s were dominated by the MCU, along with two other franchises that either have come or will come to an end in 2019: “Game of Thrones” and the “Star Wars” movies. Their example is one of how things used to be, not a sign of changing times. As Kylo Ren says in “The Last Jedi,” “Let the past die.”
The appropriately titled “Avengers: Endgame” brings the 22-movie Marvel Cinematic Universe to a close.

“Captain Marvel” is a muddled film but is resurrected by the strength of the acting performances and intelligent direction.
The Marvel cinematic universe takes another leap forward this Friday with the release of Doctor Strange, their 14th film. With its mystical themes, psychedelic imagery and relatively obscure main character, the film is one of their biggest risks the Marvel cinematic universe (MCU) has taken since initiating this multiphase, interwoven universe back in 2008.
