The Washington University volleyball team’s season came to a close Saturday afternoon in Chicago’s Ratner Center, as the Bears fell 3-1 to No. 11 Illinois Wesleyan University in the NCAA Tournament second round.

The Bears made a mockery of the postseason’s opening weekend, treating it as a continuation of the regular season with a pair of shutouts at Francis Olympic Stadium. With a 5-0 win over Westminster College Saturday and a 3-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University Sunday, Wash. U. moved to 19-0 in 2018.

Though the scoreboard went from 21-7 to 21-21 by the middle of the third quarter Wash. U.’s ferocious comeback ultimately fell short, with the Bears falling 27-21 Sunday at Francis Field as they saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

Still, through six games, the Bears have shattered expectations. At 5-1, they’re currently second in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and could easily move into a tie for first with a win this week at home against No. 17 Illinois Wesleyan University.

After defeating No. 10 Illinois Wesleyan University Wednesday night, the Bears hosted four opponents during this weekend’s Bear Invite and dispatched all of them in turn, including a trio of 3-0 sweeps and a victory over No. 13 Carthage College.

The Washington University baseball team split a doubleheader with Illinois Wesleyan University Sunday at Kelly Field, dropping the first game, 6-1, before winning the second, 8-1.

Both men’s and women’s basketball traveled to Ohio to compete in a few tournament games, while most of us were working our way through leftover turkey.

The Washington University women’s soccer team beat Illinois Wesleyan University 2-0 Saturday before a 1-0 thriller over host No. 8 University of Wisconsin Whitewater Sunday to win the W Challenge and improve to 6-0 on the season.

Despite nature postponing the Washington University baseball team’s doubleheader with Illinois Wesleyan University until Sunday, the Bears made the most of the afternoon, beating the Titans 14-1 and 5-2 at Kelly Field.

The Washington University men’s soccer team continued its dominant defensive play with a 3-0 victory against Illinois Wesleyan University Friday night. With the shutout, the No. 12 Bears have held opponents scoreless in through their first five games of the season, marking their longest such streak since 2008.
