Two vice chairs of the Washington University Board of Trustees who donated thousands of dollars to U.S. Senator Josh Hawley’s campaigns have remained silent this week as other top Missouri Republican donors condemned Hawley’s role in last Wednesday’s violent Washington, D.C. riots.

Newman is currently chairman of Hackett Security Inc. and has served on the board of trustees since 1987. He will replace Craig D. Schnuck as chairman in June. Previously, Newman served on the Medical Finance Committee, the University Finance Committee and the Honorary Degree Committee.

A 19-member committee has been formed to officially commence the board of trustees’ search for the next chancellor of Washington University, following the announcement of Chancellor Mark Wrighton’s retirement in 2019.
