Lizzy Crist named as Goalkeeper of the Year
After a historic season and nearly single-handedly vaulting the Washington University women’s soccer team into the NCAA Division III finals, junior Lizzy Crist has been honored with D3soccer.com’s 2015 Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Crist compiled a 0.42 goals against average in 22 games, the 12th-best mark in Division III, and tied for second all-time at Wash. U. In addition, she had the eighth-best save percentage (.903), tied a Wash. U. single-season record with 16 shutouts and had an overall record of 18-3-1.
But Crist’s season was defined by her NCAA semifinal performance against No. 1 Messiah. Against one of the most diverse offenses in the league, Crist made five saves in regulation before stonewalling the Falcons for four straight saves in penalty kicks.
Crist earned UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honors three times this season, and she was named first team all-UAA and second team all-region, anchoring a defense that allowed just one goal in all of October and November (13 total games) leading up to the Final Four matchup with Messiah and the eventual loss in the title game against Williams College.
Crist is the first Wash. U. player and just the second non-senior to win D3soccer.com’s Goalkeeper of the Year award in its six-year history. She joins Lillie Toaspern (‘15) as the second Bear to win D3soccer.com’s top positional honors.
