Sophomore forward Connor May, the leading scorer on the WashU men’s basketball team in the 2025-26 season, is transferring to Division I Yale University. May confirmed his transfer in a post on his personal social media pages on Wednesday, April 22, noting that his transfer is pending admissions.
Despite playing most games as the Bears’ sixth man in the 2024-25 season, May won the University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year award after averaging nearly 12 points per game in 25 minutes per game. He continued his success in his sophomore campaign, leading WashU with 17.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game en route to being named a third-team All-American. May and the Bears advanced to the Final Four in 2025 and the Sweet 16 in 2026.
May’s transfer is undoubtedly a big loss to a WashU team that will likely have to rebuild in 2026-27 without May and graduating seniors Yogi Oliff, Calvin Kapral, and Will Grudzinski. In the 2025-2026, the Bears’ next-leading scorer recorded just 10.8 points per game; WashU must find a way to replace May’s production in the frontcourt, either by increasing playing time for the four returning forwards on the Bears’ current roster, through first-year recruits, or recruiting from the transfer portal themselves.
May joins a strong Yale team, having the best record in the Ivy League during the 2025-26 regular season. However, the Bulldogs lost their bid to Division I March Madness in an overtime thriller against the University of Pennsylvania in the Ivy League tournament. Yale graduated three seniors after the 2025-26 season, including their leading scorer, forward Nick Townsend. May could factor into Yale’s rotation as soon as the 2026-27 season.
This is a developing story and will be updated should more information arise.
