Green Cup winners announced
The Green Cup was more successful this year than last, said Director of Sustainability Phil Valko, and he hopes the success will carry through the rest of the year.
The Green Cup is a competition amongst the Washington University Residential Colleges and the fraternities to see which can decrease their energy consumption by the highest percentage. It takes place over the month of February and is run by the Office of Sustainability.
Lee/Beau Residential College led the competition with a 25% decrease in energy consumption. Sigma Chi ran the Greek Life division of the competition with a 21% decrease in energy consumption.
The decrease in energy consumption led to an overall total of almost 40,000 pounds of coal saved.
“We are absolutely thrilled. This year was a much broader collaborative effort, and the results are showing in the numbers, so we’re thrilled,” Valko said.
