How to spend your remaining days in St. Louis

For all those seniors on campus, graduation is just 53 days away. With just under two months left in St. Louis, we put together a bucket list of events that our soon-to-be graduates should experience before they leave the Gateway City. This isn’t by any means the be-all, end-all of bucket lists, but these are the things that we agreed were most important to experience by the end of your tenure here.

1. Attempt at least one food challenge

There are so many possible food challenges that you can attempt in St. Louis, missing out on the opportunity to take part in one will be something you regret. The Crown Candy Challenge, the Pointersaurus challenge and the Market Pub House Ghost Pepper Wing Challenge are all amazing food challenges that you should try at least once in the time you have left.

2. Get to the top of Brookings Hall

This is probably the most difficult (and most illegal) on the list, but we students really need to do our best to make sure that we can experience Wash. U. from the top of its most recognizable building. There are many ways to get to the top that, for a variety of reasons, we can’t tell you about. But know, it is possible. And bring beers. Nothing says “I went to Wash. U.” like drinking a Schlafly on top of Brookings Hall.

3. Go swimming in the Emerson Grand Basin

You know that pool at the bottom of Art Hill? Go there. Swim in it. It’s fun, and if it’s late enough at night you can experience swimming with tons of lights…and no people whatsoever.

4. See a movie at the 5 Star Lounge at the Wehrenberg Chesterfield Galaxy 14 Cine

This movie theater promises to be special. First of all, it’s 21+. Second, it contains a full bar and kitchen with waitress service. Third, the seats are actually heated recliners. Can you imagine a better moviegoing experience?

5. Go to the top of the Arch

Seriously…you’ve lived in St. Louis for four years and haven’t been to the top of the Arch? Is it touristy? Absolutely, but the arch is the quintessential St. Louis landmark, and not experiencing it is unacceptable. If you have been to the top, try the expert challenge: climb to the top using toilet plungers on the outside of the structure. It’s been done before.

6. See a Cardinals game

Since they won the World Series, the Cardinals have been a much more legitimate team in the eyes of many Wash. U. students. Even so, attending a sporting event is always a lot of fun. Take the opportunity to see the (current) best baseball team in the world.

7. Meet a student from Fontbonne

They exist! We swear. And they live right next door to us, so you should definitely try and meet a student who goes to Fontbonne. How can you say that you’ve managed to go four years without meeting someone that literally lives 200 feet away? Just walk over there and try to meet someone.

8. See Chuck Berry play at Blueberry Hill

He is a god of rock ‘n’ roll, and because you live in St. Louis you have the opportunity to see him play at Blueberry Hill at least once a month. It’s a unique opportunity to see a legend perform some great music.

9. Go to a Wash. U. sporting event

Not many students actually do this, and statistically there is a fairly good chance that you haven’t either. Sports are very important for the people who are participating, and you should definitely go to an event at some point. We have a bunch of spring sports teams, so do your best to make sure that you see one of them compete for Wash. U.!
