Half the members, half(the)noise, all the fun
It’s time to pull out that old iPod Nano for a blast to the not so far-off past: Does the name Paramore ring a bell? Beginning back in 2004, Paramore began creating music, just in time for our generation to discover a love for the rock/pop music scene. Lines of the lyrics to their most recent 2013 hits, “Ain’t It Fun” and “Still Into You,” off the 2013 album “Paramore,” might still hold a little nook in our minds and cause us to sing along to the catchy tunes. While “Paramore” might be more identifiable in the music industry today, ex-Paramore drummer Zac Farro has taken on a new challenge and formed his own creative idea known as Half Noise, a musical project eager to get its songs on the charts even higher than its artistic Paramore predecessor. Half Noise plans to grace St. Louis on the Firebird stage with “Paper Route” this Thursday, Nov. 3.
Following the beginning of his successful music career and stardom with Paramore at the age of 13, Zac Farro decided to take a break from the spotlight, return to school, travel to New Zealand and, all the while, learn to write his own music to develop his growing musical entrepreneurship project. The skeleton of Half Noise began in 2011, producing songs and demos, including 2014’s album “Volcano Crowe,” and laying the groundwork for a solo project capable of taking its music to the road and reaching out to a growing fan base. Farro and others are thrilled to be introducing Half Noise’s newest album, known as “Sudden Feeling,” which just went public just this past September. A collection of music oozing with passionate emotion and electric pizzazz, Farro’s newest material is said to capture the complex, multifaceted aspects of the human condition and display life from his most authentic understanding. Describing his music as “less programmed but more rhythmic,” Half Noise does in fact exude a vibe comparable to that of Tame Impala and other artists riding the rim between electronic rock and pop.
While the music itself carries heavy retrospective thoughts and ideas, Half Noise performances are noted for their partylike atmosphere and audience unitedness. The scene blossoms into more than just your usual concert, when fans come together and sing the songs and of the shared experiences the lyrics portray. Dancing is strongly encouraged and often proves involuntary, due to the steady percussions and catchy background accompaniments exploding with keyboard and synthesizer sounds. To top it off, Farro’s impressive vocal range brings the instrumental components together and creates quite the pontificating but overarchingly optimistic musical experience.
Though growing in the music scene over the past few years, major transformations have brought Half Noise to a new level of musical artistry and palpable confidence, as leader Zac Farro explains. In a recent interview, he gushed, “Even though I’ve been working on this project for a while, in many ways, it feels like I’m still just starting out when it comes to my enthusiasm.”
We audience members should share in this enthusiasm and support the new musical endeavors of Farro and his team. It seems like a win/win situation for both parties if people head out and discover this new music potential, still growing into the entertainment fans long for. Head to The Firebird to give Farro a listen on Thursday, Nov. 3. You might just find yourself listening to the “next big thing.”
