Less than a month after leaving his position as Washington University’s athletic director for ostensibly the same title at the University of Illinois, short-time Bear Joe Quitman was found to have been trapped in a corn maze for the last three weeks.

Washington University’s athletic director Josh Whitman has been hired as the new athletic director of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Whitman is our first-year athletic director, having replaced John Schael after a tenure spanning nearly four decades. Whitman has actively recruited students to our sporting events with all-school email blasts advertising Red Alert. But one message he sent to only student-athletes last week is his most significant yet, and it has little to do with Bear sports.
