Student Union and the Washington University College Republicans invited prominent political figure and business leader Carly Fiorina to speak to students on campus as part of the Trending Topics speaker series at Graham Chapel Jan 29.

Justin Baldoni walked onto Graham Chapel’s stage last night coffee in hand, wearing a denim jacket and classic flannel shirt, looking more like he was ready to join a friend for a “catch up at the cafe” rather than speak at an event. And that was definitely the vibe of Baldoni’s talk on traditional masculinity.

Student Union and Leaders in Interpersonal Violence Education hosted actor, director and activist Justin Baldoni as part of the Trending Topics Series Nov. 28.

Student Union confirmed the remaining four speakers of the Trending Topics Speakers Series early Monday: “Jane the Virgin” star Justin Baldoni; former CEO of HP and former running mate of 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina; scholar and environmental activist Vandana Shiva; and CNN journalist Lisa Ling.

Student Union has selected five guest speakers for its 2018-2019 Trending Topics series after narrowing down a list of 21 candidates Sunday.

The past two years have proven that by working with student groups, Trending Topics can bring a breadth of solid, diverse and interesting speakers to campus; and if it continues along this trajectory, the series will become a vital institution at Wash. U.

Colombian actress and political activist, Diane Guerrero—known for her roles as Maritza Ramos in “Orange is the New Black” and Lina on “Jane the Virgin”—spoke to students about immigration reform in Graham Chapel Tuesday evening.

Russian-American author and journalist Masha Gessen spoke at Graham Chapel about her most recent book, “The Future is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia,” as part of the Student Union Trending Topics lecture series Friday.

In 1984 and in 1988, she ran as the vice presidential candidate of the United States under the banner of the Communist Party.

Political activist, educator and author Angela Davis spoke to a full crowd about criminal justice reform as a part of Student Union’s Trending Topic’s Series in Graham Chapel Jan. 24.
