Athlete of the Week: George Bourdier discusses journey back from injury, future goals, and life outside of track

Junior sprinter and pole-vaulter George Bourdier has played an integral role on the WashU men’s track and field team for the past three seasons. On April 4, at the Illinois College True Blue Invite, he set a personal best in the pole vault at 5.10 meters winning the event. Bourdier sat down with Student Life to discuss his recruiting process and why he chose WashU, battling back from injuries, and his favorite hobbies.

No. 1 women’s and No. 6 men’s track and field perform strongly at the Illinois College True Blue Invite

The No. 1 women’s and No. 6 men’s WashU track and field teams competed at the Illinois College True Blue Invite in Jacksonville, Illinois, on April 5. The women’s team competed well this weekend, as did the men’s team, in the second outdoor track meet of the season.

No. 2 women’s and No. 21 men’s WashU track teams compete at Keck Invitational

The WashU track and field teams traveled to Bloomington, Illinois to take part in the Keck Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University on Feb. 8. Coming off a strong performance at the third Friday Night Spikes on Jan. 31, the No. 2 women’s and No. 21 men’s team accumulated 10 and six top-three finishes on Saturday, respectively, while competing against 20 other teams from the region.

Lichtenberger sets school record as men’s track and field competes at indoor nationals

The Washington University men’s track and field team competed at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8 and 9. The team, which won the meet in 2022, had three athletes compete and finished tied for 43rd place with Benedictine University and the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

Etherington continues to raise the bar

In what has become almost a routine for the Washington University track and field teams, junior Anna Etherington set another school record last week. Etherington, a systems engineering major from Barrington, Ill., cleared 4.02 meters at last Friday’s WUSTL Mini Meet, upping her already-established outdoor school record by 0.01 meters.
