Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj tweeted that she would be retiring from music to start a family. While this revelation comes as a shock to her fans, it also provides an opportunity to look at some all-time favorites from the Queen of Rap, starting with her first album nine years ago.
Madonna returns from a four-year break this year with her 12th studio album, but this return comes more with a fizzle than with a bang. From the legend who gave us classics like “Material Girl,” “Express Yourself” and “Like a Prayer,” the oh-so-wittily titled “MDNA” only manages to fall flat. The problem with “MDNA” is not that it is completely atrocious.

At long last, BET’s Best New Artist Nicki Minaj has released her first album. Unfortunately, on “Pink Friday” she falls short of her reputation, offering an above-average pop album that shows flashes of brilliance but is ultimately suffocated by commerciality.
