Washington University has named Anthony J. Azama the John M. Schael Director of Athletics, effective July 1, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Lori White announced Tuesday.
Early yesterday morning, women’s basketball coach Nancy Fahey sent out an email to her players calling for a team meeting at noon. Fahey had just accepted the head coaching position at the University of Illinois.
Nancy Fahey, longtime head coach of the Washington University women’s basketball team will join the University of Illinois to lead its Division I program, according to the Champaign, Ill. based News Gazette.
Washington University has not had a permanent athletic director since March 2016, but a search committee is close to taking the first major steps to fill that vacancy.

Whitman is currently one of three top candidates in the running for the vacant athletic director position at Division I University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.
In a statement released Thursday, Wash. U. athletic director Josh Whitman pointed towards a new direction for the program as a reason for the change in leadership.
