Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences Barbara Schaal will conclude her term at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, officials from Washington University announced last week.

From Feb. 21-28, Arts & Sciences hosted Ampersand Week to celebrate the liberal arts on campus and give students a chance to celebrate the unique flexibility of the college.

She barely has time to sleep among days of nonstop meetings, classes and advising appointments, but professor Jennifer Smith still made time to take a group of about a dozen students to the Soulard Farmers Market Saturday for a day of shopping, cooking and socializing.

When she isn’t spending time with her eight grandchildren, traveling with her husband, or hosting dinners for Danforth Scholars at her home, Sharon Stahl is running the First Year Center and helping to lead the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University.

The search for a permanent dean of the College of Arts & Sciences has begun with the appointment of an eight-member search committee and the scheduling of two community forums.
