Washington University Basketball had a big weekend. Both the men’s and women’s teams came away with UAA wins.
The playoff fate of the Washington University volleyball team now rests with the NCAA tournament selection committee. After sweeping Case Western Reserve University in the first round of the University Athletic Association tournament, the Bears could not beat No. 1 Emory University on Friday afternoon to advance to the UAA title match and vie for an automatic bid to the tournament.
At first it seemed as if the Bears were destined for their fifth straight loss. The Bears stormed back against Carnegie Mellon, scoring three goals to win, 3-1, snapping a four-game losing streak that extended back to Oct. 12. They then added another victory on Sunday, beating Case Western Reserve University, 2-0, to clinch their first winning season since 2016 as they advanced to 8-6-1 with one game remaining.
The Washington University women’s soccer team punched its ticket to the postseason this weekend, beating Carnegie Mellon University, 1-0, and Case Western Reserve University, 2-1, to clinch its fifth straight University Athletic Association title.
Over the last five years, the following has become nearly habitual for the No. 2 Washington University women’s cross country team: They go to University Athletic Association (UAA) championships, they win UAA championships and they come home from UAA championships.
