Following accusations of sexual assault against students in Kappa Sigma’s spring pledge class, the fraternity placed two new pledges on suspension.
Kappa Sigma was placed on social probation for “knowingly violating risk management and alcohol” policies, according to the Campus Life website Nov. 21.
As of Nov. 17, Tau Kappa Epsilon is currently on social probation until Feb. 13.
Student Union Constitutional Council voted unanimously not to rerun SU’s Nov. 5 elections following an interpretation request from a petitioner who alleged that the election was improperly conducted.
The Legacy Wall, a travelling installation created by The Legacy Project (TLP), stopped in Hillman Hall Oct. 1, giving Washington University students the opportunity to visualize and learn about the past and present of the LGBTQIA* community. TLP is a national foundation dedicated to preserving and celebrating LGBTQIA* culture and history. The wall accompanies a permanent installation at an outdoor museum in the Boystown neighborhood in Chicago, IL.
The repeated pattern of suspensions—both temporary and permanent—amongst IFC organizations suggests that the existing sanctions are insufficient in rectifying issues related to alleged hazing or alcohol-related activities.
Moving forward, we urge the Office of Campus Life to continue making changes to improve the behavior of the Greek life organizations that it oversees, and the recent revision of social policies and the website modifications represent progress toward this goal.

Co-creators of the Women’s Panhellenic Association independent climate survey presented data relevant to Washington University fraternities at a meeting with the Interfraternity Council and Campus Life Thursday. In a survey Women’s Panhellenic Association (WPA) president senior Genevieve Leach and senior Rachel Lynn Braly co-created, approximately 290 sorority members reported at least one instance of sexual harassment or assault by members of every Greek fraternity chapter on campus.
